Together for action
The OEITFL was created through the merger of two specialist European
organisations (OEICL, Vegetables, and OEICCF, Fruit and Jams)
which had been formed in 1959 at the beginning of the Common Market.
It brings together the national associations representing the fruit and
vegetable processing industries in the member countries of the European Union.
Its objectives are :
-
to promote the common interests and the image of our industries,
-
to represent them among European and international bodies,
-
to approximate the national regulations relating to our products,
-
to encourage fair trading practices and fair competition,
-
to keep the industries informed,
-
to serve as a forum for greater cooperation and solidarity among
its members,
-
to provide information on market size and trends by compiling and
publishing statistical data.
One objective : competitive European companies
For stable supplies of good quality
The OEITFL :
-
maintains relations with specialised agricultural organisations;
-
constantly seeks out quality supplies that are regularly available and suitable
for processing;
-
actively supports a Common Agricultural Policy and international agreements
(WTO) recognising the specific needs of the processing industry;
-
strives for ever-improving adaptation of supplies to meet the trends in the
finished products required by the consumer.
For economic regulations favouring the development of the
European industry
The OEITFL works towards appropriate external trade regulations, freedom
of supply and fair competition for processed products.
To satisfy the consumer all year round
Promoting the quality and safety of fruit and vegetable
processing
Through its deliberations, interventions and other work on hygiene and safety
(environment, additives, contaminants, plant health products), the OEITFL
supports the drive by industries for an increasingly advanced and safe
technology preserving the natural qualities of the product.
Fully informing
-
the consumer
The OEITFL has defined the essential characteristics of fruit- and
vegetable-based processed products through professional Codes of Practice for
canned foods and a European Directive for jams, jellies, marmalades and
chestnut purée.
-
the European institutions
The OEITFL provides them with its position papers on the economy,
regulations or the quality of processed fruit and vegetables.
-
the industries of the European Union
The OEITFL keeps a close watch over economic and regulatory developments
and informs the member associations of texts likely to have an effect on
company business.
The means
The President of the OEITFL and the Chairman of each of the commissions /
groups are appointed on a rota basis from among the representatives of the
member national associations.
Each commission / group is autonomous as regards decisions concerning products
falling within its competence, whilst the General Assembly determines the
positions common to the industry as a whole and coordinates the decisions of
the other bodies.

Each of our commissions / groups is composed of professionals from the
national associations and from company representatives. Specific working groups
are set up as required.
